All members are welcome to attend meetings and contribute ideas.  All money raised is used at the Jackson Branch of Riverside Regional Library.

The Friends are a not-for-profit group of volunteers who promote the public library through fund-raisers. Money earned goes for programs, equipment, books, videos, furniture, or other things the library needs and can't afford to purchase. Being a Friend is a great way to meet other people who are interested in books and the library, to bring public attention to all the materials and services the library has to offer, to encourage and receive gifts, endowments and bequests to the library, and to raise funds to provide special programs for kids, teens, adults, and seniors at the library. If you are not yet a member of the Jackson Friends at the Riverside Regional Library, why not join? Help us make our library GREAT!!!

The Friends have been busy bringing extra support and help for the library.

New shelves purchased by the Friends for the Children's Area have been installed and hold books more safely than the very, very old ones

Our "Bucks for Books" brought in $ 64.00. That money will go toward the purchase of books and audio-visuals. We plan to repeat the campaign this spring during the month of April in recognition of National Library Week. At that time patrons may contribute $ 1.00 and then sign their names on a cut-out of a book. This is a good way to say that you think the library is a great place and you enjoy its services. The book cut-outs will be posted around the library for others to recognize that you support the library. All the money raised will be used to purchase more books and audio-visuals.

February 11 the Friends plan to show a travel video on the Southeastern USA at the O.A.K.S. of Jackson Senior Center. The video will start at 12:30 pm and last about an hour. If you are a senior, plan to join us. No reservations necessary.

We are looking into doing a Family Movie Time once a month, probably on a Saturday. This would be a general audience type movie for parents to share with pre-teen children.

Plans for the Spring Book Sale have begun.

The dates will be:

  • Preview night for members on May 1 and
  • Sale to the Public on Friday and Saturday, May 2 and 3.

We always need volunteers to help sort, box and set up books, to staff the sale and then to help with closing up. We will have sign-up sheets for volunteers at the circulation desks by the end of February. This sale is work, but is FUN, too, and it brings in most of our revenue. Plan to join us!

At our November meeting we received a check from the Rotary Club for a Literacy Grant. A big thanks to them from the Friends and from the Library, too. The money will be used to purchase supplies for making literacy kids for young children to introduce them to the joy of reading. We voted to donate money to purchase some new bookshelves for the children's area of the library.

We shared ideas for programming. We hope to offer something special several times a year. We will focus on programs for older youth and adults and are still seeking ideas. Our officers for the coming year are:

  • President--Joyce Brewer
  • Vice-President--Janice Burk
  • Secretary--Lillian Hess
  • Treasurer--Janell Hinkebein

It is time to renew your membership in the Friends. All persons renewing before the beginning of 2008 will be eligible to receive a free regularly priced book at the next book sale. You may pick up a membership envelope at the circulation desk and leave your dues with the staff or mail your dues to the FOL at the library address (204 S. Union, Jackson, MO 63755). The cost of dues has not changed.

Do you have IDEAS TO SHARE? Get involved. Come to the meetings of the Friends and share your ideas. Help make our Jackson Branch of RRL really super!

We have welcomed a new corporate member:  Montgomery Bank.
We are hoping to increase our support for the library and suggest that you might help by asking businesses that you frequent to become corporate supporters. The cost is fairly reasonable, $25. 00 for the year. Corporate Sponsors receive a certificate suitable for framing and we recognize them when we have organization sponsored activities. Envelopes for becoming members are available at the circulation desks.

We also want to thank the Jackson Evening Optimist Club for generously assisting us in supporting programs for children!

It is never too late to join the Friends!  Our dues are affordable and it gives you a chance to help your library!

Membership dues are:

Individual $5

Junior (under 18) $1

Family (Parents and at home children) $10

Senior (55 years and older) $3

Business/Corporate $25
