Riverside Regional Library

Other Events 2009:

    • Riverside continued the reciprocal agreement with Sikeston Public Library at $15,000 per year.  The contract had expired on August 31, 2009.

    • All the branches were closed down for 2 or 3 days during the heavy ice storm the last week in January 2009.

    • Paul Moon from the FCC was at Central on January 7th to present information to the public about the Big Switch program.  KFVS-TV was here to film his presentation and do a short live broadcast at noon that day.

    • AARP volunteers offered free tax help to the public at the Benton branch during February through April 2009.

    • Riverside Regional Library received $9,962.86 in A&E taxes in 2009 from the State.  This was $2,469.62 less than Riverside received in 2008.  This money had to be expended only for books and audio materials before the end of the year.  A large variety of DVDs from the History Channel were among the items purchased and were popular with patrons at all the branches.

    • Riverside received in State Aid money:  $12,342.55 (Cape County), $9,972.60 (Perry County), and $12,372.80 (Scott County).  Scott County also received $16,925.23 in State Aid Equalization funds in 2009.

    • The themes of the 2009 Summer Reading Program were “Be Creative @ Your Library” for the children pre-school to 11 and “Express Your Self” for the teens.  Over 1,100 people signed up to participate in the program that ran from late May to early August.   The Children’s Librarian also did numerous programs on her own.  “Master the Art of Reading” was the theme for the adult summer reading program.

    • New hours at Benton and Scott City went into effect in 2009.  Benton is now open all day Wednesday 9-6 and Scott City is now open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays 11-6. More morning hours had been requested by patrons for several years.

    • Celebrated National Gaming Day on November 14, 2009, with games for all ages.

    • Riverside is now a part of the Interlibrary Loan & Courier Delivery Service administrated by the Kansas City Metropolitan Library & Information Network (KCMLIN).  We signed a one-year service agreement with them this month.  The service is free to Riverside.  The project was awarded an LSTA Statewide Project Grant from the Missouri State Library for one year and will probably be renewed again next summer.  The grant provides eligible public libraries with free courier delivery service two days a week to over 350 libraries in Missouri, Kansas and Colorado.  This should save Riverside quite a bit of money in postage we’ve been spending for inter-library loans.  We will continue to charge patrons $1 per ILL.

    • The December Board meeting and a Christmas Party for Board members, staff, County Commissioners and their guests was held the evening of Thursday, December 3, in Cape at the Plaza Conference Center.  Service awards were presented to Joyce Benge (5 years), Mary Kay Sauer (10 years), Glenda Kenkel (15 years), and Bernice Kern (35 years),

    • The Technical Services Department (Eileen, Linda, Novena, Janie, Hollie) and Roberta went to the Dunklin County Library in Kennett on November 12 to see Atrium Book Systems automation software in action.  The main concern was the cataloging module.  After the trip, we have decided to continue looking at automation programs in hopes of finding one the fits our needs in place of TLC.
