Friends of the Library 2008:

Each Friends group raises funds for the library branch that it represents.

          

  • Friends of Riverside Regional Library @ Oran was formed in October 2005.  In 2008 their activities included: a Mother’s Day prize drawing in May; a float in the parade and a booth in the park at Oran’s Fall Festival in September; began a Senior Advisory Board; hosted a book sale in October netting over $125

 

  • Friends of Riverside Regional Library @ Jackson was formed in March 2006.
    Among their many activities in 2008:  Past President Joyce Brewer was honored by the library at the Jackson Chamber of Commerce non-Profit Alliance's Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on March 6 at the University Extension Building in Jackson; Bucks for Books fund raiser in April; provided a Staff Appreciation Luncheon for Central’s staff on April 17; netted over $925 from their spring book sale May 1-3; donated $535 to the library to purchase reading incentives for Central’s summer reading program; donated $1,000 towards the cost of a new book drop at Jackson.  They hosted a Jackson Chamber of Commerce After Hours reception at the main library on October 14; the LampLighters FCE Club provided the international refreshments, and about 55 people attended. Prize drawing of an autumn bouquet in November. 

 

                                  

  • Friends of Riverside Regional Library @ Perryville was formed in 2006.
    Among their many activities in 2008 were an ongoing online Book Sale on Amazon.com, a talk by Perryville Mayor-Elect, Debbie Gahan; two paper-cutting workshops by Kathy Schlimpert; produced a Perry County Family History Book; joined the Perryville Chamber of Commerce and set up a booth at the monthly meeting; donated the books given away for National Library Week; on June 5th Carol Bach gave a workshop on "Writing Ones Memoirs"; guest speaker, David Fiedler, author of The Enemy Among Us about POW's in Missouri during WWII, presented a program in July; a weekend book sale netted $400; hosted guest speaker Dr. Joel Rhodes on Sept. 24, author of  The Father of Southeast Missouri: The Life and Times of Louis Houck     

 

  • Friends of Riverside Regional Library @ Benton  was formed in March 2008.  Among their 2008 activities were: a fund-raising prize drawing of a Mother’s Day Basket filled with donations from Yvonne's Restaurant, Diebolds Orchard, Benton  Bestway, Roadside Rain Car wash, and Avon; a yard sale; sponsored a "Concert in Reading" with Rick Rayburn at St. Denis school in September.  Hosted a book and yard sale in November and December.

 

  • Friends of Riverside Regional Library @ Scott City was formed in April 2008.  Diebold’s Orchard donated a lovely potted plant for the Mother’s Day drawing.  A basket filled with gifts was donated by Pendergrass Enterprises for the Father’s Day drawing.  Book sale on August 29-30.  Purchased a wooden rocking chair for the children’s area.  Sponsored a program on Medicare prescription drug plans and the Mo RX program.  Hosted a candy and bake sale in December.
