Friends of the Library:

Each Friends group raises funds for the library branch that it represents.

 

·        Friends of Riverside Regional Library @ Oran was formed in October 2005. 
In 2007 they had a Book Sale in April, a Bake Sale in June, purchased a hand-held vacuum for the teen space, sponsored a coupon exchange, solicited ideas for purchased from library patrons, purchased a clock for the new teen area, sold tickets on an Autumn Basket, hosted an Open House in December to preview the teen-created short film, and purchased a Christmas tree for the library.  They are a small group but very active and most appreciated!

 

·        Friends of Riverside Regional Library @ Jackson was formed in March 2006.

Among their many activities in 2007, they conducted a Valentine’s Gift Basket drawing and later an Easter Basket drawing, hosted a luncheon for the Jackson library staff in April in recognition of Library Staff Appreciation Week, held a Book Sale May 3-5 which netted $831 (the Lutheran Home, Cottonwood Residential Center, Southeast Hospital, and Guardian Angel School came at the end of the sale to pick up boxes of free books for their facilities), donated money to purchase reading incentives for the Summer Reading Program at Jackson, sponsored an author visit at Jackson by Bryan Bush, sponsored a drawing and basic art workshop in September, held their Fall Book Sale October 18-19 which netted $926, sponsored a Digital Photography class in the fall, donated a new diecut die, and held a Buck-a-Book fundraiser in November. 

           

                       

·        Friends of Riverside Regional Library @ Perryville was formed in 2006.

Among their many activities in 2007 were an ongoing online Book Sale on Amazon.com.  They also purchased for the library a beautiful Nativity scene and a Bistro table and 4 chairs for the Teen area, an Audio Listening Center; sponsored a free program for the public featuring a speaker from the Alzheimer’s Association from St. Louis; sponsored a program featuring Dr. Walter A. Schroeder, Professor Emeritus at University of Missouri, Columbia (his topic was Cultural Regions in Missouri); purchased books, movies and audio books for the library, sponsored a program for teens, You’ve Got Money, Now What Are You Going To Do With It? featuring  Mr. Tom Frasher of US Bank (pizza party included); sponsored a program by Mr. Doug Sikes of Acclaim Press who gave a presentation on a Perry County Family History Book; and hosted a costume storytime in October.
